Hand in Hand

by Unu Mondo – Randy Armstrong & Volker Nahrmann

After Do'a World Music Ensemble ended its 17 year sojourn (1974-1991), Randy Armstrong and German bassist Volker Nahrmann, who performed and recorded with Do'a World Music Ensemble (1985-1991) formed the contemporary jazz/world music group Unu Mondo. Their first album, Hand in Hand, was recorded in late 1992 & early 1993 and released in 1994.

The album features Brazilian drummer/percussionist Henrique Almeida and saxophone player Charlie Jennison. Hand in Hand highlights the voices of Spain’s Olga Roman and Iran’s Narges Nougnejad Fani as well as Brazilian percussionist Mila Schiavo. I Have A Dream, a musical tribute to the late, great Martin Luther King, Jr., recorded at Nashville’s Nightingale Studio, showcases an international gospel choir and the lead vocals of Kim Fleming and Vince Ebo with guest singer Dash Crofts.

"Hand In Hand is a thought-provoking collection of music that blends jazz and world music and features an array of cultural instruments. Unu Mondo's Randy Armstrong on guitar and percussion and Volker Nahrmann on bass and keyboard offer stellar performances. An international community of singers and musicians help round out this brilliant, exuberant and poignant album. Unu Mondo, which means one world in Esperanto, proves there is hope for the world in music." MusD, All Music Guide
