Artist-In-Residence

Phillips Exeter Academy African Drumming & World Percussion Ensemble • Randy Armstrong, Director (1991-2020)

World Music Educational Residencies for Schools

Randy Armstrong offers educational residencies in World Music for grades ranging from elementary to high school. Each residency is designed to be age/grade appropriate and last from 1 to 3 weeks.

The residency begins with an opening assembly performance by Randy Armstrong demonstrating up to 50 instruments from around the world. Core student groups then work with Randy in a series of sessions and rehearsals culminating into a public concert on the concluding day of the residency.

The focus is on West African drumming, original “soundscapes” with creative writing, and choir and/or music ensemble performance.

A teacher’s guide, music and instructional videos and materials are provided to schools. Teacher workshops and master classes for advanced students are also available.

Residency Option

A collaborative residency with actor/director/storyteller, Genevieve Aichele in Story Theatre and World Music. For more info on Armstrong & Aichele, World Tales, visit Armstrong & Aichele Website for more information.
